REMHA Bench staff

Welcome to the River East Minor Hockey Association Bench Staff Hub. This page is for Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Safety Personnel, and Managers across all age divisions and levels.

All bench staff members are team officials and must complete the required administrative steps, background screening, and certifications prior to participating in on-ice activities or being rostered to a team.

1. REMHA Staff Registration & Application

Before stepping behind the bench, all head coaches, assistant coaches, safety personnel, and managers must submit their application and register with REMHA.

• Apply for Coaching (AA & A Hockey): All interested head and assistant coaches must complete the REMHA Coaches Application.

  • Royals A1 Head Coaches Deadline: September 15th

  • Royals Assistant Coaches: Must submit an application as soon as they are selected.
    
    

• Register via  the REMHA Coaches and Bench Staff Hockey Canada Registry Store (HCR/SPORDLE): All bench staff must register through HCR for the current season. All coaches must have their Respect in Sport Activity Leader before registering, or you will not be allowed to register. 

  • Note: If you have issue with Respect in Sport, please contact their customer support portal.

2. Mandatory Screening Policy & Requirements

Under Hockey Manitoba’s Screening Policy (aligned with the provincial Protecting Youth in Sport Act), all coaches and team officials must complete background screening annually or according to mandatory renewal cycles.

Required Screening Steps:

1. Screening Disclosure Form (SDF):

   • Must be completed annually directly inside HCR (Spordle) during your registration process before being added to a team roster.

2. Criminal Record Check & Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC):

   • Required for all team officials over the age of 18.

   • Must be completed by December 1st of the applicable season (valid for 3 years).

3. Child Abuse Registry Check:

   • Required for all bench staff as part of REMHA and Hockey Manitoba safety guidelines.

Flagged Checks or Record Disclosures: If you disclose a record on your SDF or receive a flagged VSC, you must submit your documentation to the Hockey Manitoba Screening Committee for review prior to participation.

3. Required Certifications & Training

All certifications must be fully completed by December 1st of the current hockey season.

Mandatory Training for All Team Officials:

• Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders: Mandatory online course for all bench staff (Coaches, Managers, Safety Personnel).

• On-Ice Safety & Helmets: All Minor Hockey coaches and on-ice bench staff must wear a CSA-approved helmet during all on-ice activities.

Role-Specific Requirements:

• Coaches & Assistant Coaches: Must complete the required Hockey Manitoba Coaching Requirements (Coach 1, Coach 2, Development 1, etc.) for their age division.  Login & Check Your Certifications (Hockey Canada HCR / Spordle) .
  

• Safety Personnel: Each team must have at least one designated person who holds a valid Hockey Canada Safety Program (Level 1) certification.

• Managers: Respect in Sport Activity Leader (certifications must be from 2020-2021 or more recent).
