Message from the Referee-In-Chief

Welcome all to the River East Official’s web site. I hope everyone had a good summer.

This year starts off with some change. Mr. George Mann who has served as your Referee in Chief for the past 10 years has stepped down. I would like to take this opportunity on behalf off all the officials, timekeepers and alike to offer our sincere appreciation for all the hard work and countless hours that George has put in over the years for the River East program.

At this time I would like to now introduce myself. My name is John McDonald; I will be taking over George’s responsibilities. Some of you already know me, and for those that don’t, I am very excited to meet all officials working in the River East area. As we move closer to the new season, there are a few things that you need to be aware of.

First of all, this year is a rule change year so please keep that in mind, technically you should re-certify prior to working any league games so lets register early for our clinics.

• Level II  Sunday October 16th, 2011 @ Gateway Arena Red rink classroom 8:30 – 4:30
• Level I Sunday October 23rd, 2011 @ Gateway Arena Red rink classroom 8:30 – 4:30

With respect to the assigning, Mr. Bob Vanstone has graciously accepted the job as assigner for another year. Last year Bob held this position and was nothing short of a consummate professional and I look forward to working alongside Bob this year.

We will also be hosting two Timekeepers clinics:

• Thursday September 29th, 2011 @ Terry Sawchuk Arena, Level II.
• Tuesday October 11th, 2011 @ Terry Sawchuk Arena, Level I.

I would also like to encourage all officials this year to utilize the experience that we have to offer. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you might have. I have been involved in officiating for quite some time and still seek answers to my questions from other officials, so please use our senior officials for guidance. There is no such thing as a dumb question. Chances are that any question that may come up has already been asked a 1000 time before.
