REMHA Female Program Update
November 27th, 2009

The hockey season is well underway with all of the teams being busy with the early part of their schedules. The WMHA Female Council has been very busy this year and I would like to make you aware of some of the things that are going on. Female hockey now has their own site on the WMHA website at www.wmha.mb.ca. Please ensure that you check this website on a regular basis for updates on programs and development opportunities for female players.

The Female Council hosted a tournament for all Atom age players on October 24th at Maples arena. We had over 200 players out to enjoy some early season competition. We are hosting a Female Midget AA Showcase event from December 28 - 30 at the Selkirk Recreation Complex that the top 10 Midget AA teams in Manitoba, including the River East Marauders, will be participating in. Over 170 players aged 15-17 will put their skills on display during this round robin tournament for scouts that have been invited from all 37 NCAA Division 1 Universities in the USA and all of the Canadian Universities. If you want to see female hockey at its finest, come out and watch a few games during the Christmas break.

The Female All Star Day will be held at the Selkirk Recreation Complex on January 23, 2010. Coaches will be notified in late December as to the details and the number of players that can be selected to represent their respective team.

The Female Bantam Challenge tryouts will be held on February 5-7 at Varsity View Sportsplex for any Bantam age players age 13 &14 who wish to participate. Winnipeg will be sending two teams to Morden in the spring to participate in this provincial tournament. Please check the WMHA website in mid December for registration details.

The Power Smart Manitoba Games tryouts for Midget players aged 15 & 16 were just completed the weekend of November 14 & 15. Congratulations to River East players Louisa Hofer, Jessica Korol and Teighan Thomas who will be representing Winnipeg at the Games in Portage la Prairie from March 7-10, 2010.
