River East Royals 9A2 Black 2017-2018 City Champs!

Congratulations to the River East Royals 9A2 Black team on their Championship run!

The Royals 9A2 Black team started off the season with a real strong showing at The Rob West tournament only losing one game. Focusing on equal ice and opportunity, skill development, and allowing all of our players to play different positions, including our two fantastic goalies, who rotated out as players every second game all season. The momentum carried into the regular season going undefeated in the first half.

We decided to take a break at Christmas and not enter any tournaments. We entered the Grand Forks Squirt Classic in late January and had some stiff competition on the ice and lots of fun off the ice, growing as a team.

We finished the regular season in 3rd place in the city. Luckily, the 9A2 playoffs were held in River East this year, giving us the feeling of having home ice advantage, and our team went undefeated.

Our team mantra of "Win Every Shift" seemed to resonate with the players, they were dedicated, hard-working, and supported each other every step of the way. Every single player on our team stepped up big in different situations all season long, which the coaches felt gave the players and coaches the confidence to never stray from our equal ice and opportunity belief system.

The coaches would like to thank the players and parents for a fantastic season, especially our managers Melonie Okapiec and Nancy Suga.

Way to go Royals Black!!!

North East Eagles Gold 2017-2018 City Champions!

Congratulations to the Peewee A2 North East Eagles Gold team on their City Championship!

The North East Eagles Gold team of 14 girls worked hard all season to finish second place in the regular season. They showed incredible determination and grit as they worked their way through the playoffs to get to the finals.

The final 5 game series was full of great hockey with the girls working together, passing, skating and battling hard against the first place Storm Black team. Our first game in the final series was a 4-1 loss but the Eagles came back in the second game to return the favour and beat Storm 4-1. However, we lost the 3rd game in overtime and then faced elimination in the 4th game as the Storm were one goal away from winning the series at the end of the 3rd period. The Eagles managed to score quickly, 8 seconds into overtime to get the win and bring the series to a 2-2 tie. The North East Eagles Gold team came out strong in the 5th game, winning 3-0 and becoming City Champs in the A2 division.

AA Midget Marauder 2017-2018 City Champions!

The River East Marauders AA Midget Team started the season off with a win over the Rebels in mid October and they carried that winning way throughout the Regular season and never once surrendered 1st Place. They finished the Regular Season off with another huge Win Over the Rangers which secured us 1st place and the best possible position in the Playoffs. They lost a total of 6 games in regular season play. We had a 2 week layoff from the end of Regular season and the start of our 1st round of the Playoffs. The Guys were pretty sick of practice and couldn't wait to play that first series.

We opened the Playoffs against the St Vital Vic's who just finished a tough 3 games series against the Ranger so we knew they would be ready for us. We won Game 1 ( 5-4 ) on a Goal with about 2 minutes remaining in the 3rd Period. It was the scare we needed to get us going and into Playoff Hockey Condition. Game 2 was a little easier won 11-3, Game 3 was a push back by the Vic's and ended in a 2 -2 Tie. Game 4 seen the Guys respond with a big game and we closed out the series with a 7 -2 win and off to the City Finals. We had to wait to see who our opponent would be between the Canadians and Rebels in the end it went to 5 games and the Rebels prevailed.

The Final Series started with a Big Series opening win over the Rebels 3-1. Game 2 seen the Rebels push back big time and we got hammered 9-2, Game 3 was much the same we lost 3-1. With us now down and facing Elimination the Guys didn't lose hope and continued a positive thinking mind set and Played a very hard hitting fast skating Game that we all knew they had in them and they Prevailed by winning 5 - 2 and forced Game 5. Game 5 seen our Guys fired up to play that same style of game that won us game 4 and on the backs of some strong Goaltending we Shut them out 2 -0. It seems very fitting that we opened the regular season with a win over the Rebels and closed the season with a win over the Rebels.

In closing, I would like to thank the players for giving it everything they had to get them the City Championship honours. Job well done. To The Parents I would like to thank them all for giving me there continued support throughout the season it is very much appreciated by myself and my assistant Coaches. To REMHA I would like to thank them for Giving me the opportunity to Coach this great group of Hockey Players.

Barry Rochelle - Head Coach Midget AA Marauders.

The Royals 10A1 White team travelled to Steinbach for a tournament over the November 24th to 26th weekend. After strong pool play the Royals were tied for first.
